The official Australian Bureau of Statistics figures for 2016-17 indicate that 78,890 Australian citizens returned to Australia and 93,141 departed Australia. Based on an official count of 759,849 in 2004 and Net Overseas Migration figures since, the number of Australian expats is now estimated to exceed 1 million.
